Deer Hunting is the most popular outdoor sport in North America. 12.6 million hunters harvest approximately 900,000 deer annually. The sport brings billions of dollars into the economy and is essential to the management and health of our deer population.
Deer Hunting dates back to pre-historic times. Early man was part of the food chain and hunters had to overcome great adversity to simply stay alive. As man and weapons advanced, Deer quickly became a less threatening alternative to mammoths by providing food, clothing and shelter with little chance of death..
As time progressed, advances in technology afforded hunters the opportunity to harvest more deer than ever, but nearly decimated the deer population. Luckily through DNR regulation and quality herd management, the North American deer population is larger and healthier then ever.
Today, deer hunting has evolved into a highly organized sport, complete with seasons, limits, GPS, Trail Cams and Night Vision scopes. Deer hunting provides an opportunity to connect with our ancestors, affirm our position atop the food chain and pass down the beloved traditions of hunting to the next generation; but there is a dark side to the sport.
There is a silent war raging between man and the whitetail deer. Everyday, deer are fighting back with all four hooves, avenging the destruction of their ancestors and trying to regain lost control over the woodlands. Warning signs are clearly posted and the maimed carcasses of fallen hoof solider’s litter the highways and country roads of all 50 states.
The Media plays a large role in keeping the lid closed tight on this conflict. Sure there are bits and pieces of information that find their way into benign police blotters and local papers, but to uncover the magnitude of this struggle one needs to only look between the lines and see with their own eyes the truths of Deer Hunting Man.
Resistance warfare is nothing new to our society. Deerilla tactics are employed via surprise attacks against unsuspecting motorists. Attacks typically happen in the evening hours and are most prevalent in the months of May/June and October/November. Aside from attacking motorcycles and cars, deer have been known to directly attack people or their homes and businesses.
Deer are masters of propaganda and have used this skill to penetrate high levels of the America Society. Children are taught that deer can speak and are friends of all the wood’s animals. Deception has given deer access to our youth via petting zoos, movies, picture books and video games.
Every day the battles wages on and it is our mission here at Deer Hunting Man to document this struggle and bring to light the realties of this epic battle.
